Lobby Ellie
Lobby Ellie is a series of otherwise pointless selfies taken in the lobby of the DTLA apartment I lived in for about three years. It was an Instagram thing at the time, but looking back now I also know that how I dressed—especially in my thirties, at the height of my reverse retirement—was another, very important way for me to express myself creatively. In fact, I have taken to joking that the most successful and enjoyable relationship I have ever had is with my wardrobe.
Yes, it was incredibly vain and silly. But it is also really lovely to have this chronology of myself to look back at now. I can remember exactly where I was going and what I was doing, for many of these images. It’s not just a time capsule of my closet. It’s a collection of memories, from behind the scenes.
